What is C8 MCT

Caprylic acid triglyceride (C8 MCT[Medium Chain Triglyceride]) is one of the oils found in coconut oil, palm oil, and the milk of humans and cows. C8 refers to the number of carbon atoms in the fatty acid strands. Each molecule has 3 carbon strands attached to a backbone. That’s where the “tri” in triglyceride comes from. Coconut oil contains a range of C8, C10 and C12 strands. The longer the strands (C10, C12) the more work it takes the body to break down and absorb. C8 chains, being shorter, are easiesr to absorb and breakdown through a process known as ketosis.

Greenshield MCT oil goes through a process where any C10 and C12 strands are stripped and replaced by C8 strands. This optimization vastly improves bio availability and absorption.

C8 is gentler on the stomach and easier to digest than other CBD carrier oils.

C8 can support nervine function, even reducing seizures in patients with epilepsy and easing essential tremor.

Most CBD companies use either hemp seed oil or regular coconut oil or palm derived MCT. They are cheaper and easier to obtain than C8 MCT but none of them metabolize as well.
